I think it's important to explain the details so that readers can understand your reasoning for the course you have chosen, and so that readers also understand the specifics in your state, which may not apply to them. It also makes sense that you keep the mortgage and house if renting is as expensive or more so. Plus the aggravation of finding a landlord who will take you, given that a lot run credit checks these days, and then you say you have "all our animals".
