Debt Free or Bust

Extra Part-Time Job!

Wow! When you start digging for opportunity and listening to every hint of it, opportunity seems to knock on the door! Or more like send an email and then follow up with a phone call.

I was just hired as a freelance consultant with Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG). I have my first consult this week. My duties will be to talk with their clients about subjects in which I’m proficient and can answer the questions and give the background information the client seeks. I’ll be consulting in chemistry mostly, but also in financial services and investments, since I’m a registered investment adviser, and likely in projects that involve knowledge in both areas.

The cool thing is I’ll make $180/hr. The not-so-cool thing is I’ll only be working about 2 hours a month on average. But, that’s more money in the shortest period of time that I can come up with through any of my means of earning. There are opportunities to do slightly more consulting than a couple of hours a month. I have to go onto the website and dig, and then get accepted. You’re only guaranteed the consults they invite you to do. But, that’s a little time for heck of a lot of money. I don’t necessarily get paid for any prep time, but at that hourly rate, I can do research on my own time.

The other cool thing is now I can add consulting to my resume, which may get me more consultations.
